Mortal Kombat 11 has recently sprung a few leaks thanks to a retailer breaking the game’s street date, and it has resulted in one of the most iconic characters in the series having one of their fatalities leaked. Mortal Kombat 11 fatalities have been a major selling point for the game so, while this part of the leak might seem minor when compared to having its entire roster revealed, it is still quite a blow to a series that has placed such a high priority on revealing its creativity through fatality trailers.
Mortal Kombat 11 isn’t technically due out until April 23, but it’s clear at least one retailer has broken the street date for the game and let early copies out into the wild. The most recent effort from NetherRealm Studios has placed a priority on returning to the game’s roots, as shown in trailers for Johnny Cage’s multiple iterations within the game and even a reveal trailer where the debuting character lost their fight in comical fashion. It’s clear the franchise isn’t taking itself too seriously in its most recent outing, although it would probably have liked retail chains to consider its release date with a little more gravitas.
The video, which was originally posted by Reddit user Datrael, has since been taken down, but it spoils Shao Kahn’s more basic fatality. The video shows Kahn wielding his trademark hammer with aplomb, using it to decimate his opponent prior to taking it to their face so hard that it pops their head and spine out of their back. It’s a grisly image, but it’s surprisingly tame for a series that has already showcased a few fatalities that involve literally ripping someone’s face off or implanting a baby spider into them only for it to eviscerate them and use their corpse as a shell. So, yeah. Business as usual with Shao Kahn’s basic fatality.
The recent Mortal Kombat 11 leaks also confirmed the existence of a secret character in Frost, as well as a roster size of 25 different fighters to begin with. That number doesn’t include whatever the DLC (or DLK?) plans for Mortal Kombat 11 are, and we already know at least one fighter, Shang Tsung, will be joining after the fact. Luckily, fans didn’t need to wait for the street date to be broken to find out that Mortal Kombat 11 microtransactions are hardly a thing within the game’s set-up, a relief to those who may have been worried since fighting games tend to have an easier time implementing harsh business models thanks to character unlocks, stages, and costumes all being high in demand.
Shao Kahn’s fatality is the latest visceral image to get fans excited for Mortal Kombat 11 and, even though the street date has evidently been broken somewhere, it’s not like we have to wait long anyways—Mortal Kombat 11 releases on April 23, 2019. Those looking to avoid spoilers may want to play it safe and duck social media discussions this week just in case, though.
