Game of Thrones Season 8 Teaser Trailer Hints At Battle of Winterfell Deaths

HBO releases a new Game of Thrones season 8 teaser trailer that depicts the aftermath of the Battle of Winterfell – and hints at multiple major character deaths. HBO’s massively popular high-fantasy drama, Game of Thrones, is coming to an end this year with its eighth and final season. The show has followed many characters throughout the years as they’ve battled for the Iron Throne, but a larger war is looming.

The Game of Thrones season 7 finale set the stage for a battle between humans and the Night King’s army of White Walkers for the fate of Westeros. That war will come to a head at the Battle of Winterfell in Game of Thrones season 8, which is being teased as a massive battle that will decide whether the fictional land will be ruled by the living… or the dead. Jon Snow (Kit Harington) has teamed up with Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and her two remaining dragons – after one was killed and revived as a member of the Night King’s army – in order to face the White Walkers. Meanwhile, Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) remains in King’s Landing, though her brother Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) joined those in Winterfell. Now, a new Game of Thrones teaser hints at the aftermath of this big battle.

HBO released a new Game of Thrones season 8 teaser trailer that doesn’t seem to include any new footage from the upcoming episodes, but it does hint at the fates of certain characters. Amid the wreckage of Winterfell – which does nothing to reveal who actually wins the battle – there are certain objects associated with specific characters. Arya Stark’s sword Needle can be seen, as can Jaime’s prosthetic hand and, finally, Jon’s own sword Longclaw. Check out the teaser below, along with a previously released promo that hints at Jon and Arya’s reunion.

Of course, it’s not clear whether those characters referenced in the “Aftermath” teaser will actually die in Game of Thrones season 8. Since the upcoming episodes are expected to wrap up the show’s story, there are sure to be some deaths – or many deaths if past seasons are any indication. After all, the residents of Westeros are fighting the Army of the Dead, an incredibly formidable foe. And once that war is decided, there’s still the fight for the Iron Throne to deal with. That is, of course, presuming the humans do eventually defeat the Night King.

All of Game of Thrones’ past seasons have been building to these concluding episodes and, as such, they’re highly anticipated among fans of the HBO series. It remains to be seen whether the last six episodes of Game of Thrones will live up to the hype, and whether the finale will be a satisfying ending for those that have been watching the show since season 1. Fans will soon find out when Game of Thrones season 8 kicks off in less than two weeks.
